Home FAQ

Before
you ask

The ones that come into my DMs every week — and what to do with the tattoo once you've got it.

Do you take walk-ins?

Local Roots Ink welcomes walk-ins. For time with me, the sure way is to book — text me or fill in my booking form and we'll find a day.

How do I actually book you?

Three ways, all of them fine: the text-me form on the home page, my booking form, or a DM to @inkbylolo. The more reference you send, the faster I can answer.

What kind of tattoos do you do?

Blackwork and fine line, mostly anime and manga, comics, video games and pop culture. Japanese and tribal art runs through a lot of it. All five are here in full.

Where are you based?

Local Roots Ink, 721 S 219th St, Des Moines, WA 98198. I also tattoo in Tacoma and Seattle — ask me what's coming up.

What does a tattoo cost?

Shop minimum is $150. Flash and panels run $150–400. Portraits, sleeves, multiple flashes and big projects go by the session: half day (4 hrs) $600, full day (7 hrs) $1,000, and $150/hr past 7 hours. You can get multiple pieces done within one session. Customs are quoted by the piece. Full rates here.

Do you take a deposit?

Yes — $100, non-refundable. It goes toward the final price of your session and covers one reschedule. After that, rescheduling is a $50 fee that doesn't come off the total (COVID and emergencies excepted), and I don't reschedule a third time. If you're 30 minutes to an hour late with no update, the appointment is forfeited.

Do you tattoo in colour or only black?

Both. I specialise in black & grey with hints of colour, but I do full colour too.

It's my first tattoo. What should I know?

Get a good night's sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat a meal 1–2 hours before your appointment to keep your blood sugar steady. No drinking the night before.

Do you do cover-ups?

Yes. Every cover-up starts with a consultation.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes — one guest per client. Let me know ahead of time if you're bringing someone. You must be 18 to get tattooed.

Aftercare

Look after
it properly

Half of how a tattoo ends up looking happens after you leave. This is what I tell everyone.

Follow my instructions, not the internet's. Every artist wraps and heals differently. If yours looks or feels wrong at any point, send me a photo — I'd rather see it early.

The wrap

Saniderm stays on for at least 24 hours, 4–5 days at most. If you leave with Saran wrap, keep it on for 1–3 hours.

First wash

Take the Saniderm off in the shower and wash with an antibacterial, unscented soap.

Ointment, 2–3 weeks

Apply a thin layer of ointment — Aquaphor or A&D preferred. Wash and apply like this for about 2–3 weeks.

The don'ts

No swimming or soaking for at least 2 weeks. Keep it out of direct sunlight. No heavy exercise for 2 days. Don't pick, rub or scratch it.

A healed tattoo is the only one worth judging.

Ready when you are

Send the idea and we'll get a day in the book.
